Issued in 1949 and often said to be one of the most beautiful of Canadian commemorative coins, this wonderful one dollar coin commemorates the the entry of Newfoundland into the Canadian Confederation and features an image of the "Matthew", the ship in which John Cabot is thought to have discovered the island in 1497!
