1898 Dominion of Canada $1 Dollar Banknote                                SKU# 512825C

In 1897 the Canadian government stopped buying bank notes from the British American Banknote Company. They changed their supplier to the American Banknote Company in New York who built a branch plant in Ottawa. They took the opportunity to re-design all of their banknotes. This fascinating $1 dollar banknote was issued in 1898 and serves as a wonderful piece of Canada's rich monetary history and is a must-have addition for any collection. 

1898 Canadian Dominion of Canada $1 Dollar Banknote:
- BCS Graded: 50 Original (Almost UNC)
- Year: 1898
- Obverse: shows the portraits of the Earl of Aberdeen, Governor General of Canada on the right and his wife the Countess of Aberdeen on the left and shows a Log Drive scene on a Canadian river in the centre. It reads "OTTAWA, MARCH 31st 1898 - THE DOMINION OF CANADA - WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ONE DOLLAR"
- Reverse: shows the Parliament Buildings, viewed from the front gate to the Centre block in its central vignette and reads "DOMINION OF CANADA - 1 ONE DOLLAR - AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY, OTTAWA"
- Bill comes sealed in a BCS protective plastic sleeve

Condition: Bill appears to be in circulated condition and shows some discolouration from age and use. Sticker label on the plastic sleeve appears to have a typo of the year; the correct year should have been typed 1898. Again note that this banknote has previously graded by BCS and was NOT professionally graded or appraised by us.
