The Royal Bank of Canada originally opened in 1864 in Halifax, Nova Scotia as The Merchants Bank. In 1901, in an attempt to become more worldly, the bank changed its name to The Royal Bank of Canada and it moved to Montreal. The Royal Bank of Canada printed currency from 1901 until 1943. This fascinating $5 dollar Specimen banknote from 1943 serves as a wonderful piece of Canada's rich monetary history and is a must-have addition for any collection.

It reads "DOMINION OF CANADA - THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA - WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND FIVE DOLLARS - MONTREAL JAN 2ND 1943 - GENERAL MANAGER - PRESIDENT - BRITISH AMERICAN BANK NOTE COMPANY LIMITED" and stamped "SPECIMEN" in red
- Reverse: shows the Coat of Arms of Canada and reads "THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA - FIVE DOLLARS"
- Bill comes sealed in a PMG protective plastic sleeve
